Have you ever thought about using the Internet to make a little extra money on the side each month, but didn’t know where to begin?

That’s, at the heart of it, what Epic 14 Days is here to answer.

If you haven’t already checked it out yet – I encourage you to join the E14D newsletter and grab your copy of my two free eBooks: a [step by step] guide on how to create your very own website [for free] in less than 2 minutes; and 5 things you can do in the next 14 days that will start you on your way to becoming an epic online superhero! (go on, grab them now… I really am just giving them to you).

Epic 14 Days is about a lot more than just creating your first free website though.

It’s a journey and a story about learning to create a successful online business. Martin (Project Manager. Dad) and Izak (Chief Video Producer. 11yo kid.) are your guides and guinea pigs, but this journey is as much about you as it is about us.

It’s never been easier to earn some extra money on the side, or even start a serious online business for almost no money (in fact you CAN earn some extra money every month without spending a single dollar if you want). The barriers to entry for new online businesses are lower than ever before and we want you to jump right in and do this with us.

Will it take time? Yes.

Will there be mistakes? Most definitely.

Will we feel like quitting at some point? I’m pretty sure we will…

Will we learn and improve and grow our ideas and make new amazing friends and keep trying until we find the best way to reach our goals? YES, YES, YES and YES.

Why Epic 14 Days?

Epic 14 Days is based somewhat on Agile development methodologies… something that I use in my regular day job as an IT Project Manager. The general concept is that we will have 14 days to produce ‘something’… that two week block is called a ‘cycle’. At the end of each cycle, we review what was achieved, reassess our goals and figure out what we’re going to deliver in the next 14 day cycle.

Pretty simple right?

14 days is a great time-frame to work with – it’s long enough to actually get something done, and short enough to maintain focus on what’s important. As we incrementally improve our ‘products/things/knowledge’, those 14 day cycles start to produce a snowball effect and before you know it, we’ll have created something that is truly EPIC!

This is a bit of an infographic of what our Master Plan looks like… think of it as a general set of guidelines that we’re trying to follow:

E14D Master Plan

…and here’s one of my first (rather lame) attempts at posting on Instagram… it sums up our general philosophy.

Think of E14D as part learning-how-to-build-a-successful-website / part personal-journey / part reality-tv-show / part play-along-at-home-and-choose-your-own-adventure.

I want you to follow along and be a part of this journey with us. I’m going to share everything – learnings, success and failures. I want you to understand and appreciate, not only the effort and perseverance required to succeed, but also the fun, excitement and happiness that a journey like this will bring.

About Martin and Izak

[Martin] I’m an IT consultant. I’ve worked on IT projects for some very large companies, government departments and a couple of top universities. I’m a bit of a generalist – a Project Manager, Test Manager, Business Analyst, Data Analyst… for the last 8 years I’ve been able to peek under the covers and dissect some critical IT systems powering some interesting businesses. I’ve worked with some amazingly talented people and learned a lot of cool things (especially about business systems and processes)… but I don’t want to do that forever.

[Izak] I’m 11 years old and have been interested in computers since dad introduced me to World of Warcraft about the age of 6 [yep, I’m an irresponsible father 😉 – Martin]. I definitely have that entrepreneurial spirit, my Grandfather is a small business owner (landscaper) and I regularly go and work with him on client jobs during school holidays (and earn some pretty good money!).

[Izak is also school captain this year (final year of primary school) and gets to speak on stage every 2nd week in front of 1100 kids when he runs the school parades and MC’s special events – can you imagine doing that at age 11? – Martin].

I hope that gives you a little insight into why I’m keen for the two of us to push outside of our comfort zone and document all of our strategies, successes and failures as we build a viable online business.

I’m not expecting this to be a short journey. Most successful online entrepreneurs who I have talked to when researching this project said it took them at least 12 months before they felt like they had enough traction to make a living from this full-time (there are some exceptions). I really do hope that you will come and be a part of that journey with us and help encourage and push us along to make this a success.

One last thing I want to talk about here briefly – promotion.

Even though Epic 14 Days talks about making money online… it’s not about making money here directly. I can 100% hand on heart say that the aim of E14D is to document and focus the journey as we build other websites; and to give freely (to you!) the systems and processes we use and experiment with as we go. You get to see what works, what doesn’t, our thinking, our dreams, what we’ve learned, what we’ve dismissed… I really do believe that the best way to build a successful online business is to share your ideas and engage with as many people as you can.

Take things one step at a time (or in this case 14 days at a time) and before you know it, you’ll end up with something epic. We hope to see you doing epic stuff with us 🙂

Thanks for taking a bit of time out of your day to visit us (and for reading all the way to the end of this rather long About page!), we really do appreciate it.
